The aim of the project is transformation of former ceramic factory, which is located in a small marvellous town called Laveno-Mombello in Northern Italy. The entire complex with its spacious dimentions of 27 000m2 is an example of impressive italian industrial architecture together as a typical railway brownfield - waiting for new utilization.
HEAD\nThe main communication axis, so called “backbone”, is oriented towards the downtown, the lake and the promenade. Morning sun shines towards the bakery and main entrance square, where public functions and services are located. Former gatehouse can offer daily newspaper, ice cream and spacious caffee. The main concept could be visible in solitary volumes that form an organic square providing enough space for gathering and offer forecourt for the spine house - an important monument of the town. It contains a synonym for the former directorate - visitor center on the ground floor, together with central foyer, where is possible to pass-trough to the garden behind. Two auditoriums, main reception and extension of municipal library on the second floor are also part of renovation.\nTRUNK\nLongest house of the wide area is 130 meters long. This titan contains several functions such as art studios and ceramic workshops to keep traditional spirit in the space. The biggest part of the house is reserved for elementary school and rest is used for short term rentals of accommodation. Important element is an accessible roof, that is directly connected to the public courtyard with an outdoor staircase, offering various functions from sports field, linear treadmills, over rooftop cafe to beds for growing herbs. The water mirror fountain reflects the majesty of the house and preserved columns, that are part of a heritage. Kindergarten, that is acessible from the street above the complex together with the multifunctional event halls is presented as a new volume. Round atrium facing the sun, with a playground on the roof, makes the place more alive.\nTAIL\nThe orientation of the complex changes direction at this point. Transverse interconnection up to the railway station and existing street was built instead of former heigh barier. Urbanistic composition follows its original trace. Individual cells are placed on the preserved concrete structure, drowning in the tropical garden. Accommodation on camping basis is an independent and lockable part, that closes the whole terrritory.
