Let’s make a tour to a hybrid Market model that combines indoor and outdoor spaces. Welcome to a meeting center, where people are able to exchange products, ideas, experiences, everyday moments. This is Kailar Market! ? condenser building for the city of Ptolemaida, in Greece, in a protected public space.
Since Pontou Street is a major road that crosses the plot, the first step is to integrate the road into the intervention site and thus into the building unit that is being created. \nThe pedestrian walkway of the National Resistance Road is also an important element. Two additional entrances to the plot, one at the beginning and one at the end of the footpath are taken into consideration in order to create the desired entrances to the building volume. For this reason, a long path is created which crosses the plot. Approximately at the center of the intersection of these routes, the central point of the Market with four entrances is planned.\nThis central flight that is formed divides the ground floor space into three zones. A central zone which includes the free islands of the market, one which develops along the sidewalk and contains secondary uses and the third in which the closed shops are placed. The areas developed in the zone along the pavement are arranged under a large stairway. This zone is created in an attempt to combine public uses with Market uses. In the south-western zone of the building, two batteries of shops with a central arcade are planned. The elevated piazza can host multiple activities. Directly above the café, and across the northeast zone, the restaurant is placed. The building above the elevated piazza is complemented by the ramp which forms an amphitheater route inside the building and a perimeter balcony on the outside. The ramp on the outside is transformed into a coloured canopy which houses both part of the open-air Market on Wednesdays and cultural activities. \nMarket's undulating roof consists of 20 large metal louvers whose slope changes appropriately to allow diffused light from the north while allowing sunlight to enter the building from the south. Each large louver is filled with smaller wooden louvers which are perpendicular to the north-south axis. \nSails, metal frames, crates, have taken their place again. In this public Market vendors and consumers, visitors or workers meet, talk, create the memories of another Wednesday (the day that public Market has been taking place since 1928).
