The project focuses on an incomplete existing courtyard building located in a residential, multi-social district in Rome characterized by the gentrification process and infill areas, lack of green, social spaces and houses. By adding eight-story building in an existing courtyard was created new spaces: residences, green and spaces for art.
Urban infills is a challenge for all designers to find best solution in small places and optimize it. This can be also a great opportunity to get new public spaces in high density cities. Because of this were made several meetings between the administration and citizens in order to find neighborhood’s needs and any possible solutions. So I designed ground and first floor as open, green and public with co-working spaces and young artists’ labs. The other floors are destined for residences with balcony access. Every apartment has a large terrace and an open plan, but different size matching different kind of family. Accessibility improvements were made as well. A series of stairs join every floors and two lifts were designed.
