Prison
The task of the bachelor exam was to design a prison that would accommodate 80 juvenile delinquents. My design considers german legislature's definition of what prison should be and the reality of what it is. The building is bare, the prisoners create own rules, resulting in an endless game, which purpose is to achieve social skills and education.
I became very interested in the idea of designing a prison when I started considering how significant prisons are to the perception of a culture and their views and ideals. It was also very intriguing to design a building for people who had no intent of staying or wanting to be there and possibly finding a new form of architecture for this particular typology. In general I feel a constant need to challenge myself with tasks that are not common, but controversial. It allows me to take a position as a creator that others might not be able to. This way I can make a creative contribution to current topics, often yielding new and exciting results.
