Greenhousing is an attempt to create good conditions for elderly people, like for “fragile plants” in a greenhouse. Co-living is especially relevant for seniors to combat loneliness, social isolation and accessibility of in-home care. The glass roof and south facade that capture solar energy increase the analogy to the greenhouse even more.
The proposed solution is a building with a wide range of functions (commercial, public and residential) and types of occupants (elderly people and families with children), which can potentially form a model of sustainable interaction and integration. The building envelope creates a contact plane with the street and the commercial function is located in this part. This turn of the building articulates a private courtyard shared with the neighbouring children's centre building. The residential complex is connected to the service and commercial groups of premises through an atrium circulation space. The building features semi-private and shared spaces that stimulate communication, interaction and ease of use of the built-in services. Almost all materials, structures and façade solutions comply with sustainable building standards. The internal climate is regulated by sun protection and ventilation.
