Every year, Greek islands attract a large number of tourists . A percentage of these visitors are mainly retired and derive from northern European countries.Which model of touristic accommodation could meet the needs of this type of holidaymakers? In which way and means could the community get involved in this kind of residential scenario?
The fu-TOURISM proposal takes place in the village of Piso Livadi, which is an ideal destination for middle-aged tourists. The proposal concerns private rooms and communal spaces to accommodate these visitors. The area selected for receiving the program is located in a peripheral part of the settlement that is easily accessible and has direct contact with the beach. At the same time it has southeastern orientation. The plot accommodates 22 private residential units with common typology. These units are the nucleus of the visitors' privacy, which is gradually becoming more percolated. Per two units, visitors are sharing outdoor equipment such as kitchen, BBQ, hot tub, benches and hammocks. Also, on the coast front is located a concentrated area with kitchen, workshops, living room, hammocks, toilets, storage and parking space. In addition, uses such as an open air movie theater and wine press are placed at the plot, while relaxation platforms are placed in the sea. Planting is an important synthesis and programming element of the proposal. It is vegetation that thrives in the Mediterranean climate of the island such as olives, figs, vineyards and tamarix. The connection of the holidaymakers with the rest of the village is done with the help of technology and applications, but also thanks to the activities and the laboratories fed by it. First of all, with regards to the transportation of visitors from the private rooms to the plot, the village and reverse, it is carried out by a motor car that repeatedly follows a specific route. In addition to the use of the application, the visitor has the option of ordering food either from the residents or from the village businesses. This transport is done via drones. Activities that connect the local community with the holidaymakers are the harvest of olives and grapes, cooking and initiation workshops in the local cuisine, and the open air movie theatre. Finally, the unit has a circular plan and is divided into three parts which are bedroom, WC and shower. Perimeter of the main space is located useful equipment. It is a lightweight construction with a CLT wall masonry.
