We studied from a sociological and urbanistic perspective a peripheral coastal tissue of Lisbon, seeking the creation of an urban-architectural structure able to cover the needs of a contemporary society, both in terms of program, providing proximity equipments, or in terms of housing and quality of life.
The first premise in the development of this intervention proposal was the revitalization of a former industrial zone, which now appears as an interstitial and fragmented band between the old and new parts of the city. The proposal will seek to create an urban-architectural structure that involves the pre-existing buildings, urban structure and network, as well as local needs and contemporary requirements, a structure that allows the revitalization of an abandoned area and that could be able to be a diffusing core and to attract the contemporary Lisbon culture. The second premise of the proposal, and on a more approximate scale, reveals a concern and personal interest developed throughout the study of architecture: housing. Again, the concept of contemporaneity must be mentioned. The objective of this project is the study of a contemporary model of one or more housing typologies capable of responding to the needs of Portuguese society, which is included in this proposed architectural organism.
