This and associations with three-dimensional kites carried away by wind were our key inspiration in shaping the building. The purpose and operation of the equipment in the vertical wind tunnel building is extraordinary. The wind inside the closed cylindrical tube with a square section blows at over 300 km/h. Generated by huge impellers, it is powerful enough to lift people and keep them up 'floating'. This and associations with three-dimensional kites carried away by wind were our direct inspiration in shaping the building, while the urban sprawl at the intersection of nearby motorways, as well as the fleeting perception of the area, encouraged us to propose a distinctive and autonomous form showing the struggle between wind and gravity. The location allowed us to minimise environmental impacts thanks to the availability of roads, power lines and a concrete plant, and the possibility of rainwater retention and excavated soil disposal. The closed air stream circulation used minimises energy consumption and allows the energy to be re-used for heating the building.
