The subway system provides a service that is as rapid and precise as it is unspectacular. The minimalistic achitectural, graphic and product design manifested in construction aim to illustrate the concept of service underlying the facility. Minimizing the amount of material and objects used provides for well-defined, well-illuminated space. The clarity that defines the building s appearance is accentuated by functionality. Basic Considerations: - Public transportation facilities are characterized by their expedience and convenience .they are generally used on a daily basis. - They should be functional and easily accessible; - a primary objective is to find strategies and solutions that provide for spaciousness; - people need light and unobstructed vision; - the architecture is the background. It was clear from the beginning that a robust design was necessary which would withstand intense usage over a long period. At the same time, there was the wish to create a straightforward, unpretentious structure that would facilitate tracking passengers to their trains. Natural sources of light and spatial geometry were integrated to meet this end. The surfaces of the materials used were considered secondary in creating aesthetic appeal; this is supported by the fact that none were colored, painted, nor covered to enhance their appearances. As a result, the black and white directional signs are well noticeable. In accordance with the building s long life expectancy, the construction materials are extremely durable, while at the same time easily detachable and recyclable. The main focus in planning this building was on its function. Generous incorporation of natural light and overall unobstructed view of the surroundings fulfill the human need of clarity and security. In addition, the differentiated spatial sequences positively influence passengers state of mind.
