EXTN is a linear city project, located at the Korean Demilitarized Zone ‘DMZ’. Designed to be able to absorb the operations caused by a hypothetical but close emergency situation after the possible reunification between North Korea and South Korea, in which a high influx of displaced North Koreans seek a new settlement in the south, a Third Space.
As a response and criticism to this great problem that occurs in our current reality; born the idea of focus, analyze, develop and solve this problem in a particular case, Korea EXTN is located by many issues at the border of the Korean peninsula the ‘DMZ’. Connectivity: Dorasan Railway Station and Pyongyang-Seoul Highway 205 km from Pyongyang and 56 km from Seoul. This station is the only connection point of the Trans Eurasian Rail Network, which connects the South with the North, connecting with Asia and Europe. Powered and built by both Koreas and the USA. ‘May this railroad unite korean families’ George W. Bush, 02/20/2002. Politics: DMZ World Eco-Peace Park The KINU (Korea Instirute for National Unification) and the former president of the Park government propose in 2013 the creation of a Peace Park in the DMZ that will establish a sustainable peace in the Peninsula in the future. An ecological park and natural reserve that becomes a symbol of Peace. JSA. Joint Security Area The only point in the DMZ where the political and military forces of both countries have contact. Created in 1953 after the ceasefire and managed by the UN, United Nations Organization. Responsible for the administration of the DMZ. Economy: Kaesong Industrial Park Opened in 2002 and closed in 2016. A collaborative economy industrial park between north and south, in 123 South Korean companies employed 53,000 North Korean workers. Producing $ 90 million a year in part destined for economic stabilization after possible reunification. Dora Observatory + Tourism South Korea Tourist observatory in the southern area, which attracts both national and international tourists. From which the North Korean zone and Kaesong Industrial complex are observed. This city, EX-TERRA NULLIUS, draws a new layout of the settlements where the displaced people live, resolving the precariousness of the current design and responding directly to the needs of this particular society, to put an end to a given problem in a permanent and resilient way in a period of time limited.
