Each city has its own history that must be preserved through the generations. The project is inspired by the neighborhood's past which, although marked with poorness, reminds us of its people united in both good and bad. The aim is to bring life to an abandoned urban area and through the architecture to remind people that when we are united, life is better.
The project "Development of the Public Spaces System in Sofia - Three Wells Area" aims to present an idea of an architectural volume-spatial solution for a specific territory from the broad center of Sofia. The project is based on three main areas: - The grounds around the tobacco warehouse - The grounds of the former brewery "Macedonia" - The terrain of today's Billa supermarket The abandoned territories of the brewery "Macedonia" and the tobacco warehouse are envisaged as museums with diverse public functions. This would achieve pedestrian connectivity while preserving the cultural spirit. The terrain of today's Billa supermarket is is the subject of particular attention in the project presented. Based on history, I design public-function buildings that separate the squares. Three of the buildings encapsulate the function of a museum complex, which in turn corresponds with the museum houses on the opposite side of the street. The fourth building is an office building with a commercial part on the first and on the underground levels. The buildings are designed and placed in a way so that in addition to the formed square spaces, we get an axial orientation that binds the garden "St. Nikola" with the newly designed pedestrian area around the tobacco warehouse. They aim to enhance the created pedestrian areas. This is a reference to the emergence of the human-territory-city connection. The ground floors of the buildings are of mainly public character - bookstores, shops, cafes, conference rooms. The exhibition areas are placed on the upper floors. On the second and third levels, I design connections between the different volumes. The offices are of type open space and are located on the upper floors of the Office Building. On the underground level, I situate a parking for 200 cars. All of this corresponds to the idea of reviving the cultural spirit of the region with the set goals: - Conservation, display and socialization of cultural heritage. - Development of a green system with new public spaces bearing a cultural and historical footprint. - Creation of multifunctional pedestrian zones.
