Desacralization of sacred objects. Adaptation of the ruins of the Carmelite Monastery in Zagórz into a therapeutic center.

The progressing secularization of societies contributes to the increase in the number of unused sacral places. Adapting to new goals may be a chance to save them. The work touches on the issues of abandoned sacred places and how they are adapted to new functions with the smallest possible loss of their value, including intangible assets such as genius loci.

It was decided to introduce the function of a therapeutic center for people struggling with depressive problems, stressed or overwhelmed. The new function refers to the contemplative nature of the monastery, it is to be a place of silence and searching for the sacred, also in the non-religious dimension. The sancity for a modern man is feeling psychical balance and inside peace. The process of improving mental health has been described as \"the way to sacred\". The treatment was divided into 4 stages, placing them in individual parts of the monastery buildings located around the cloister. 1st stage- lost sacred- the moment of noticing the problem and making an attempt to combat it. This stage takes place in the place of the former monastery gate. There, patients are introduced to the resort.\r\n2nd stage- patient-the environment- with the help of art therapy, a person gets to know the environment through various senses. This stage is organized in the place of the former novitiate- a part of the monastery for people just entering the religious life.\r\n3rd stage- patient-his interior- There are a yoga classes and is conducted an individual psychoteraphy. This is place to get quiet. Its located in the wings of the monastery intended for monks subject to strict enclosure\r\n4th stage-the sacred- The last element of the process is finding the sacred, this zone is located in a former temple. It is a place of contemplation. The church is a place of exhibition of patients' works created as part of art therapy and occasionally a place of celebrating a holy mass.\r\nThe aim of the center's activity is to find the sacred in the sense of balancing the spirit of patients, but also to restore sanctity in the former church, giving the opportunity to conduct the liturgy there again. The project assumes supplementing the cubature in the place of the non-existent monastery building\r\nand roofing of the temple. The basic principles of the planned activities are minimal interference with the historic tissue and reversibility. The form of additions is simple, ahistorical. It is to emphasize the relics of the walls and provide a background for them.
