In the Apennines of Monte Cimone, the thesis proposed an exploratory scenario of social cohesion to define a Cooperative Mountain Community. Through participatory infrastructures and the recovery of rural heritage. Landscape resources become the design medium to transform the territory into a place of socio-cultural innovations.
The project elaborates on the basic conditions for the consolidation of the habitability and infrastructure of the landscape of Monte Cimone. A research approach based on sustainable territorial regeneration is recognized. The project definition of Communities supporting Landscapes is developed, which contains the explanation of the project proposal defined through two pilot projects. SOCIO-CULTURAL INFRASTRUCTURES: The first pilot project aims to give an original meaning to the mountain mobility system. The definition of the five rings, differentiated by the type of infrastructure, activity, length, and difficulty, reorganizes the Monte Cimone, giving it a new tourist-recreational attraction. The five-ring system runs parallel to a points strategy of the Hubs. In it, three types of recognizable spatial configurations are identified. The quality of the project is entrusted to the enhancement of the current spatial conformation, through simple and concrete interventions capable of generating a clear and effective response to places designed for the congregation of communities. RE-INHABITED HERITAGE: The second pilot project materializes through the regeneration of La Serretta hamlet and the surrounding forest, now both abandoned, for the preservation of tangible and intangible heritage that is disappearing. The hamlet is designed to relocate productive forestal processes into a cooperative community life dimension. La Serretta becomes a symbolic place around which to build a working chain defined by minute interventions, places for production, laboratories, and open spaces. The productive role consists of the latent capacities of the surrounding woods through three definitions: the coppice, the forest garden, and areas in which to preserve biodiversity. All three configurations are aimed at countering the challenges of climate change and the marginalization of mountain areas. The intentions declared in the pilot projects answer in terms of the offer of services and new job opportunities. The strategies and motivations materialize in a punctual landscape project
