The goal is to discuss the museum as another gate to such culture and memory, a new PassPort for Izmir!
The project aims to translate such culture and archive into an architectural program ?a city museum as an archive and a real public space. It has a very substantial position to keep and extent this Coastal Culture within the new forms of Museum targeting not only to be an archive and exhibition hall, but also a contemporary public space as part of daily life and communing practices of the city. The museum is a complex where the maritime tradition, coastal and port culture in urban memory are explored and exhibited. The museum aims to create a collective data network including the city and inhabitants. It aims to create a resource for shaping the future cities by gathering information on marine tradition and coastal population. The data obtained are as follows; sea tradition, daily life on the shore, development of the city, change of the city, fishing-hunting, coastal resources, local boats, map construction, natural and cultural history of the coast, coastal and port movement, beach and sea, etc. Co-port museum is not only data silo center / arch. lab. but also an architectural laboratory in which various researches are carried out on urban memory within the context of coastal and port culture. Also, it is a center of education and training that organizes various interviews, conferences and workshops in different disciplines as well as libraries and archives.
