Culture Centre
Starting from the concept of “the loss of identity” in today’s globalized society, a disruptive idea of the Cultural Center is proposed, an interdisciplinary space based on its formative, collaborative, expositive and constantly changing nature. A space that maintains its strong industrial identity to become a dynamic element of the city.
The universal idea of space is one in which, presumably, space is large and neutral enough to serve any number of different identities, a space not predefined in advance.\nThis concept is one of the key points of the project, the idea of a Cultural Center capable of accommodating and adapting to practically any situation is considered fundamental.\nTransforming the structure of the Stadtlagerhaus into a visible emblem of the city is another of the basic concepts of the proposal. Industrial history is a central component of Regensburg’s urban culture, therefore its preservation and enhancement is considered a priority.\nThe plot is understood as a large longitudinal axis, parallel to the river, in which the Stadtlagerhaus acts as a warehouse, container and exchanger. The intention is to consolidate this concept of Stadtlagerhaus as an exchanger, as a cultural exchanger.\nThe project consists of a landscape building through which it is intended to enhance, reveal the history of the place, of an architecture, of a port, and at the same time make all the uses coexist within a unique and fluid environment, within a public space conceived as a filter and intermediate space that does not respond to the classic interior-exterior duality.\nIt is proposed to create a new ecosystem where the different strategies do not overlap, but rather interact through the creation of a new smooth and malleable surface.\nThrough the geometry of this surface, new spaces are generated and a spatial continuity that crosses the Stadtlagerhaus following the longitudinal axis that organizes the operation of the complex. The entire space under the building is transformed into a surprising outdoor public space between the huge structural pillars, a large central space, around which all the activities of the community take place.\nThe building is intervened through a process of emptying, understood as a rough work, as in a sculpture, burying or drilling it.\nInterested in an architecture focused on experience, art, emptiness, energy. In short, provoke unexpected reactions that generate new perceptions.
