CAPSULE

The Capsule is a space travel unit. It’s able to transform itself according to the conditions of its environments, either in anti-gravitational space or on the gravitational surface of a planet. It’s designed for the needs of a 6-member crew. My project is an experimental enterprise of architecture in the future and outside the planet Earth.

The Capsule is part of a modular system, which is built together on LEO. It is a unit for a 6-18 months long space travel. It can transform itself according to its environments. It’s designed to comply the needs of a 6-member crew. The body is provided with a multilayer insulation. The unit has 3 parts. The smaller part includes the machines of the life support system. It rotates the used air and water, controls the brightness by daylight, temperate the space. This part is connected with an airlock to the living module. The diameter of the living space is 8 m, and it is 10 meters long. I divided the space into 6, 60-degree sections. The crew's traffic is happening lengthwise, in the centre. The fixed functions like private-dwelling, sanitary, medical, provisioning units, are at the fore and aft. Every 60-degree parcels have a sub-division of a 15-degree sector for the fixed furniture. The mechanical engineering elements - of the life support system - are in these sections, built in the wall. The leftover 45 degree is a sector for free utilization. The aeroponics are suited between the mechanical engineering lanes - also on the wall. It serves partially as the crew's food supply. From a psychological point of view these green surfaces are the only remnants of our Planet during the journey. As the mission reaches its target the ship starts to orbit the discovered planet, and the Capsule lands on its surface. During the landing the module use it’s CH4 and O2 tanks to decelerate the impact. The outer layers detach, the hydraulic legs open. The interior transforms. All the elements which were parallel lengthwise with the unit become perpendicular on it, and parallel with the surface of the planet. To enlarge the living space the crew can adopt the emptied - but hermetically insulated - fuel tanks as workshops or storages. To connect them with the base unit, they can use the planet's resources to 3d-print corridors. In the long run the colonizing humans replace these small units for much comfortable dwellings. They create their own way of life. After conquering the Earth 2.0 mankind can finally have its yearned Plan B.
