Between walls

From the beginning, the project is understood as a simple excuse to configure a city and generate public space. The scheme is based on a system of walls which are opened in several directions from a central point and embraces the immediate environment. The library does not want to be a bright, immaculate volume, it wants to be lived actively.

The project takes place in Mont-Roig slope, which is located at the bottom of Montsec highland, exactly where there is a contact between the village and the crops. After performing a site analysis, quite a few realities are identified that make of this location a very complex, yet privileged site. Three volumes delimit the public space, limit these spaces, creating a boundary between interior / exterior, which is sometimes altered. These volumes, unlike the other three that fit inside the walls, are arranged by taking into account alignments given by the pre-existing ones. Each of these pieces increases in size as they approach the funeral parlour, enhancing the current disconnection. The conceptual strategy goes through THREE guidelines. These, linked to each other, mark the entire strategic process that has been followed to reach a final proposal. Emerging from the problems of the site and turning them into opportunites for the constructive resolution of the building. The three guidelines are still stages of study, from the most territorial, passing a more urban scale to the constructive detail of each point of the proposal. The interpretation of space from different perspectives has decided the direction of each phase for a maximum adaptation to the space. Starting with the location of the plot, it works as a BORDER between the fields of cultivation and the old town and is located in the lowest point of the municipality being, therefore, the Basement. Finally, it is overlapped between different LEVELS, with a height difference of 8m. The proposal seeks at all times to find the necessary adaptation existing in the site.
