How should a space be organised, if it is not a homogeneous area without internal partitions, neither is characterised by a traditional, hierarchical division? Can we treat space as field, in which the relations between the places are crucial, unlike their form, in order to create a stimulating space that generates spontaneity and coincidence?
The design concerns an edifice of two storeys above the ground and two below the ground. It consists of three main parts. The ground level is destined for public area where functions associated with creative works and self-development intermingle with each other. First floor is designed as a private area for housing with eighteen flats of different sizes and layouts. The premise of the project is the possibility of the relations between those spheres. The underground part of the building is designed as a two-level parking and technical facilities.\nThe building is planned on a square. The simple regular figure allows creation of a non-hierarchical volume, that not equipped with front nor back facade, enables equal access from each side. Ground floor because of its public functions is surrounded by a glass facade, highlighting the connection with the exterior and its social profile. On each side of the building there are four entrances leading directly to a communication ring that deals as the entrance hall. It's here, where the stairs leading to the private houses start. The ring is therefore a zone, where the world of private every-day life meets the creative acts happening downstairs.\nMain inner partitions in the public zone consist of high glass panels that rotate on their middle axis. After rotation they rhythmically mark the limits between various places of the area, among which interaction can take place. The panels can be left open or closed, depending on the actual need of the users, easily adapting itself for different types of events.\nThe flexibility of the designed space allows treating it as a scenario possible to apply to various locations with different urbanism, lighting, climate and culture.
