By changing the existing temporary building belonging the Industrial Design Department, how can we improve the urban and architecture quality of the barely hundred years old Bauhaus Campus of Weimar!?
As first thought we decided to connect this area with the two adjacent green lungs, opening the Campus to the city through a new entrance from Amalienstraße. Coherently with the existing condition in the south of the Campus, the project tries to follow the replacement of some pavillions striclty connected to the bordering green areas. The character of these pavillions, analogously to what was done by Van de Velde, is humble and respectful of the preexisting ones, it doesn't lay down in height overlooking the context but it states itself through a solid basement. The choice of placing the museum in the main square tries to re-establish the centrality of the same, bringing it back to the core of the entire Campus. ?In a unconventional way the new square brings on one hand a relationship between the old and new ateliers and on the other hand treats the back of the angular building as a new front. Ultimately the public space acts like a compression and decompression sequence between the squares and narrow passages, in which the citizens can pass through and always see the students' work or the temporary exhibition space wich opens on the new courtyard.
