The project examines a post Brexit scenario for Scottish Youth Parliament and Ministry of Education Headquarters in Glasgow, following the devolution of the United Kingdom; speculated in 2042, aiming to decentralise the government on the basis of direct democracy.
Contemporary politics and the devolution of the United Kingdom following the Brexit, has been the drive leading this project. How can the youth become more integrated and involved in the new era as far as politics are concerned, bringing about a positive change to the current political idiosyncrasies?\nToday’s young generation seems to be characterised by apathy, resulting in low turnouts in the elections due to the complexity of the Victorian representational system. The project’s proposal is a new type of government for Scotland, based on the examples of direct democracy in Switzerland and Canada. By 2042, 12 Ministries are to be spread out across the 10 different regions of Scotland, together with local parliaments operating under their jurisdiction.\nThe proposal for Glasgow introduces the ministry of Education together with the Scottish Youth Parliament as the city has the largest student population in the country. The setting chosen, is Glasgow Green in Calton, which not only forms a gateway towards the east side of Glasgow, but also aims to create an identity for one of the most deprived areas in Scotland. \nThe reverse of the political hierarchy forms the main concept, implemented through the inverted - fragmented pyramid design. The large sculpted spaces under the canopies of the pyramids create an open amphitheater for the local community with an almost topographical view of Glasgow Green and the surrounding heritage. The pyramids themselves accommodate the main chambers and support spaces for the Scottish youth parliaments.\nThe paired concept of renewal and regeneration and the balance between independence and interdependence are interwoven and as such, manifest throughout the design.
