Located in Ștefăneștii de Jos, north of Bucharest, the building represents the headquarters for a Romanian tarrazzo specialist producer and is developed on a long, narrow plot within a transitioning agricultural area. The linear building integrates offices, showroom, storage, and production spaces in a rational sequence. Its bright yellow and dark grey tones draw from the surrounding rapeseed fields and soil, while oversized illuminated letters on the façade engage the nearby highway, transforming the industrial structure into both a landmark and a future memory of the site’s rural past.
The project confronted the challenge of introducing an industrial complex in a still rural setting surrounded by open fields. The site’s elongated geometry dictated a linear arrangement grouping showroom, offices, and production zones in an efficient sequence. Instead of camouflaging the intervention, the design amplifies contextual elements: the yellow of rapeseed, the dark soil, and the visibility from the highway become defining architectural themes. Oversized volumetric letters transform signage into spatial expression, strengthening the client’s identity. The concept reconciles clarity, adaptability, and sensitivity to place, turning a functional structure into a coherent response to both landscape and program.
The building structure consists of a series of 20 prefabricated steel frames, each spaced 6 m apart, providing an 18 m span and 6.2 m clear height. This rational and repetitive system ensures flexibility and cost efficiency. The ventilated facades are composed of pre-painted metal cassettes, thermally insulated with basalt mineral wool, and divided into three distinct horizontal registers. The dark grey base is clad in an experimental terrazzo-like material developed with the client, durable and easy to maintain. The middle register, made of corrugated metal, serves as a support for oversized, backlit steel letters, while the upper register is defined by vertical perforated metal strips that shade the windows. Exposed structures and installations minimize maintenance and reduce unnecessary cladding. The use of prefabrication, recyclable materials, and long-lasting coatings supports environmental and economic sustainability while ensuring a consistent industrial aesthetic.
