Amnis is the project of a museum complex that aims to completely renew the Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica. The purpose is to innovate and to promote one of the top ten most important Archaeological parks in the entire world. This can happen only through a radical reorganization, mentis et corporis to emphasize and express its yet unexplored potential.
Amnis [amnis], amnis s. m. - Latin, III declension - 1. a. river, torrent, stream - 2. flow, current - 3. (poetic) water. The flow, both physical and metaphysical, the flow that gives order, the rule and the exception at the same time, the Tiber, Rome’s main river, its current path and the ancient one, deviated, its backbone, a path that has changed and that constantly changes during the course of time, the deepest reason of the foundation of the first settlement. The design strategy aims to reopen a long-sleeping dialogue between the city and the river, the primary reason for its own existence. Three new elements appear in the landscape: a pavilion, a museum and the office compartment. All the remaining structures are hidden inside the pre-existing embankment, on the top of which lays a long promenade that constitutes a real visual device, intended to open new glances on a landscape so rich like the one in Ostia Antica.
