-The thesis research consists of two phases: 1 Finding form through generative architecture: an experimental design method of "Birth" of the form which is determined by design "parameters", by variable rules dictated by the design purposes. 2 Transformation of the digital generation into an architectural phenomenon also valid on a structural level.
The project involves Generative Architetcture methodology to finding the form through some parameters. These variable rules can take on different characteristics in a predefined range. The rules are encoded in a script (Grasshopper) which determines the generation of an output. 1 The rules of this script are determined by: - public tender rules - personal analysis rules: primary and secondary pedestrian flows, social fluidity. 2 The script optimizes these variable rules to get the max winter solar radiation. 3 The final output is judged on the basis of other parameters that are difficult to trace back to a machine: the aesthetic factor. In this case is chosen organic "metaball" forms considered more suitable for following pedestrian flows. The script is then modified and new outputs are generated, the process continues until the final building is generated. The result was subsequently "cut" along the sides of the batch overlooking the city and left organic in the part towards the park.\nThe second phase deals with the structure: the shape has been "normalized" through the use of simpler and more manageable geometries. It was decided to use a structure of load-bearing concrete partition walls each of which is positioned perpendicular to the tangent of the curve at a constant distance from each other. Through the use of Karamba It is analyzed the structural behavior and, through the creation of another script, curve and section are allowed to be modified. The final project consists of two main organic buildings connected by a bridge near the main entrance to the courtyard. It’s clearly visible the vertical cut that characterizes the "border with the city" and the other fundamental element of the project: the green social level, a strong horizontal sign that connects the buildings with each other. There is a large internal square and each architectural complex has its own internal courtyard from where the horizontal communication elements start. The nursery is located inside the largest building on an intermediate floor, and is also equipped with an outdoor garden terrace.
