Recognizing the need for specialized care in the Philippines and acknowledging the significant disconnect between the cognitive demands of individuals with ADHD and traditional architectural spaces, this project confronts the following: How to effectively address the unique cognitive, sensory, and emotional needs of children with ADHD through architecture? How to overcome the limitations of existing healthcare models and create a more holistic approach to care? How to design solutions that foster a sense of belonging, empowerment, and autonomy for children with ADHD in the country?
ADHDventure: A Therapeutic and Wellness Hub for Children with ADHD has the main goal of providing a comprehensive and innovative mental health care facility in the Philippines, dedicated to optimizing the development of children with ADHD by fostering a safe environment that promotes inclusivity and a sense of belonging. By identifying and translating the psychological needs of individuals with ADHD into distinct architectural solutions, the project emphasizes the journey of its users toward three core goals: enrichment, healing, and empowerment. Enrichment: -Fostering a sense of wonder and exploration: Creating unique spaces and circulation paths that encourage discovery and evoke curiosity. -Stimulating cognitive development: designing spaces that encourage exploration, experimentation, and cognitive engagement. Healing: -Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment: Removing barriers and fostering a sense of belonging by ensuring accessible transitions and maximizing visibility throughout the facility. -Promoting a sense of calm and security: Minimizing distractions and creating spaces that promote relaxation and a sense of well-being. Empowerment: -Evoking a sense of control and autonomy: Offering a range of choices within each space to empower users to make decisions and feel a sense of control over their environment. -Promoting self-regulation: Providing spaces that encourage self-regulation and independent decision-making through visual and spatial affirmations.
