The objective of urban regeneration for the neighborhood of Ciudad Meridiana in Barcelona will be given first and foremost by a rethinking of both its accessibility and connectivity with the city. The improvement of housing, a quality urban space and the creation of facilities and services will be key in the proposal for its economic reactivation.
With the objective of urban and economic regeneration of Ciudad Meridiana, a series of intensification actions will be carried out that will affect and cover different aspects that are lacking but necessary in the transformation of the neighborhood. In Ciudad Meridiana we have to work on the existing and that implies an improvement of the built blocks that compose it. This implies having to cover from the relationship between public space and building, the climatic-energetic behavior of the building and the accessibility and improvement of housing, currently without elevators in most buildings. Apart from the actual housing models, subsidized housing and endowment housing will be introduced, which will facilitate the population diversity. Each intensification project in Ciudad Meridiana will not have a regenerative value by itself, but a regenerative solution will be given as a whole in association with different intensification actions alongside the neighborhood. Each intensification action will focus on the different factors that have been considered by the specific situation of each of them. In the particular intensification proposal of the project the main areas of action will be the rehabilitation, connectivity and accessibility of the buildings as well as the public space surrounding them. On the other hand, the urban space will be developed in relation to the intensification and expansion of uses in new buildings, such as a new use for university studies, student residence, a hub for small and medium enterprises, as well as the creation of a library space with artistic workshops for interaction and activity to generate proper urban cohesion, this will directly affect the way of relating the public space with the first floors of the buildings, which is currently non-existent. In addition, a subsidized housing program will be developed, in connection with a residence for the elderly, in order to generate synergies between the two of them. The urban spaces destined to squares or promenades will be enhanced by the relationship of use of the first floors of the projected buildings.
