The project proposes a new paradigmatic form of dwelling to challenge the urban development of Addis Ababa. The aim is to propose a narrative vision for the possible development of the slum areas of Addis in the following decade, avoiding peoples relocation and the complete destruction of the historical socio-spatial mixity of the central city.
I did this project to question the role of architecture within the aggressive environment of developing Ethiopia. The project has been a struggle to try and identify a role for architecture in a place where it seem it is not needed and, when it does, it shows few possibilities of real action beyond the mere rethoric of its social roles. I wanted to prove that thorugh a project on the city, through architecture, it is possible to envision another, alternative, future scenario for the urban environment.
