EU policy successes through architecture

This EUmies Awards exhibition showcases models of architectural works recognized by the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture / Mies van der Rohe Awards, supported by Creative Europe, demonstrating how they have positively impacted our living environments in recent years. These include: housing projects that rejuvenate existing structures, enabling residents to shape their own homes; cultural facilities that strengthen a city’s connection to its natural surroundings, such as waterfronts that reflect the effects of climate change; educational buildings designed to foster optimal learning environments; cultural heritage projects that bridge the past with the future for a more resilient tomorrow; Innovative works from the new generation of architects, presenting bold visions for the future.
This exhibition was first featured at Berlaymont Piazza which became a meeting point for social interaction, a connection with nature and culture, and the privileged venue for temporary exhibitions.

The project consists in the transformation of 3 social housing’s buildings of 530 dwellings.
Built in the early 60’s, they needed a renovation after their demolition has been ruled out. The transformation of the dwellings full occupied, starts from the interior, to give them new qualities: more space, more light, more view, and upgrade the facilities.EUmies Awards Architecture & Emerging

De Flat is an innovative renovation of one of the biggest apartment buildings in the NL called Kleiburg, a bend slab with 500 apartments, 400 meter long, 10 + 1 stories high.
Consortium De FLAT rescued the building from the wracking ball by turning it into a Klusflat meaning that the inhabitants renovate their apartments by themselves.EUmies Awards Architecture & Emerging

La Borda cooperative housing is a self-organized development to access decent, non-speculative housing. It contains 28 units (40, 60 and 75m²) and several community spaces: kitchen-dining room, laundry, multipurpose space, guestrooms, health space, storages, and exterior and semi-exterior spaces such as the patio, bike parking and terraces.
