In a peripheral area that retains its character of agricultural production, which is slowly being abandoned, an old orchard is adapted into a vacation garden. An act of maintenance with minimal interventions where the garden is defined as an open-air house and a single room shelters the needs for a simple living in the countryside.

The project consists in the renovation of a 120 spm apartment with a 50 sqm patio in the heart of Gracia’s district. The flat was fragmented into small rooms connected by dark corridors with very low relation with the exterior spaces. The consecutive rehabilitations had left a sedimentation of layers that were hiding the potential of the existing space.

The family villa is built just a few hundred meters away from the Baltic sea shore, surrounded by water, sand and pine forests. Views, experiences and sounds of the surrounding nature accompany one’s approach to the villa and fill the interior with its calm presence. Local exterior and interior materials blend the building to the natural Baltic seaside.

The 17 storey silo has been transformed from a grain container into THE SILO, consisting of private housing and public functions. The spatial variation within the original silo is immense due to the storing of grain, creating space for 38 unique apartments. Both the top and lower levels have public access creating an urban focal point for the neigbourhood.
